OUR HISTORY
Levi Spirits
The chronicles of yesteryear already tell the fascinating story of a family, the Levi family, that since the 1700s had been dedicated to a magical art that bordered on alchemy: distillation. Originally from Campodolcino, a small village near Sondrio (Lombardy), the Levi family were grapats, an ancient term used to refer to the trade of grappa distillers, a noble art handed down from father to son for centuries. Historically, the grapats did not settle permanently in one place, but moved from village to village, in search of the finest marc from which they would later make their spirits.
As time passed, many of these artisans stopped wandering and settled in various locations, where they opened their own distilleries.
Towards the end of the 19th century, one of them, a young grapat named Guglielmo Levi, arrived in the small and friendly town of Aosta, in the shadow of Europe’s highest peaks. It was in this corner deep in nature, in the historical centre of the small Alpine town, that Guglielmo decided to open his distillery. And so it was there, in the collegiate church of Sant’Orso, he began to produce his prized grappas, the beginning a story that was destined to last.

Over the decades, the business developed steadily, along with the increasing interest in the art of distillation and the spirits that came from it. In 1968, Guglielmo’s daughter Natalina Levi, together with her husband Cesare Rosset, moved the company’s operations to the town of Quart, on the outskirts of Aosta, where the distillery was expanded and renovated. Even today, decades later, Quart is the home of Distillerie Levi, now entrusted to the passion of Nicola Rosset, Natalina’s son and Guglielmo’s grandson.
Today, in a world that is ever more attentive to technological innovation, the raw materials of its territory and the short supply chain, the secrets and passion of the Levi family continue to provide great enthusiasm.
The recent modernisation of the production plant, including the installation of a still powered entirely by solar energy, is tangible evidence of the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence, while maintaining strong ties with its roots and ensuring absolute respect for the surrounding environment.
